On this page, we welcome stories that shed light on what it’s like to live, work, and/or identify as a woman in the field of music theory. We want this to be a safe space where contributors can share freely, so comments will be disabled, and all stories anonymized. (Please note that you do not have to be female to submit a story.)
Please anonymize your submissions as much as possible in order to protect the identities of particular individuals or institutions, especially if they are negative. The moderators may edit submissions further if they are not sufficiently anonymized. All stories will be posted under the same anonymous username to minimize the possibility of writers being identified.
We hope this page will provide a useful resource, for those who want to share their stories, for the CSW and other committees seeking to identify issues they need to address, and for anyone who would like to get a more accurate sense of the real-life experiences—positive as well as negative—of women in the field of music theory.
Please enter your story in the form below. Our administrators will edit it to delete any possibly-identifiable information and will share it on our blog. All submissions will be anonymous unless requested otherwise. Please note no comments will be allowed on the blog post.
